Yadier Molina is planning to be a part of the sport of baseball at the World Baseball Classic, despite the fact that he plans to call it quits as a player following the end of the 2022 season of Major League Baseball.

Yadier Molina was named to manage Puerto Rico’s roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic on Thursday after the announcement was made by the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation.

Yadier Molina indicated that the 2022 season will be his final one after signing a contract extension with the Cardinals in August of 2021 for an additional year of playing time.

Yadier Molina explained his choice to walk away from the situation by telling reporters

“Well, it’s enough.” “I mean, 19 years is a long career, and my position is a tough one. Right now, I would like to do my best, and I’m going to train my body hard, but it’s difficult to keep up with this game at a high level right now when you’re 39,” he said. “Right now, I would like to do my best, and I’m going to train my body hard.”

Yadier Molina has played in the major leagues for the past 19 years, but it does not appear like he has any desire to retire from baseball completely.

Molina was given the job of managing a winter ball team in Venezuela for the following offseason, as was reported in April.

The revelation that Molina will lead Puerto Rico’s squad in the 2023 World Baseball Classic comes at a time when there has been a lot of turnover behind the scenes for the baseball team representing the province.

In the beginning of this month, the general manager Eduardo Pérez resigned since no one informed him that Molina was going to be chosen as the manager. Pérez had his sights set on Joe Espada, who was serving as a bench coach for the Houston Astros at the time, to take over as the team’s manager.

Since the beginning of the World Baseball Classic in 2006, Molina has been a member of the Puerto Rico national team that competes in the event. In 2013 and 2017, the Puerto Rican squad finished in second place overall.

The World Baseball Classic will take place from March 8 to March 21 in 2023. Pool play will be hosted in Taiwan, Japan, and the United States of America. The LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, will play host to both the semifinals and the championship.
