At the fourth annual WBSC Under-23 Baseball World Cup, the Netherlands became the fourth team overall to score more than 10 runs.
The Netherlands scored several runs in the bottom of the first inning despite being pitched by South Africa’s Dylan O’Brien. The scoring started right away.
The Dutch offense was kicked off by a single to left field by Darryl Collins, which was followed by singles by Shervyen Newton, Jair Van Borkulo, and Tyriq Kemp. Additionally, Jeandro Tromp hit a double that drove in two runs, and Yurdion Martie hit a home run that scored three runs and cleared the bases.
After Delano Selassa and Collins each had two at-bats in the top of the first inning, South Africa was forced to bring in Jesse Johnson from the bullpen in order to finish the inning.
In the third inning, Newton extended to the Netherlands’ lead with a solo home run
Giving them a 9-0 advantage.
Two runs were scored by South Africa as a result of a triple by Cornelis Miller and a sacrifice fly in the third inning, as well as a single by Cornin Greenslade in the fifth inning; however, these scores were not sufficient to prevent the game from ending due to the run difference after five innings.
