On Friday, in the Placement Round of the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, Puerto Rico defeated Germany 3-1 thanks to a home run by Shawn Ross that drove in two runs. This home run was the game-winning hit.
Although Puerto Rico had more hits (9-3) than Germany, they did not tie the game until the sixth inning and required a two-run homer from Shawn Ross in the seventh inning to grab the lead. The game was saved by Edwin Sanchez’s perfect pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.
