Jose Altuve, who plays shortstop for the Houston Astros, has announced to the media on Wednesday that he will compete for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic in 2023.
The last time Altuve competed for his home nation in the World Baseball Classic was in 2017, and the Venezuelan squad ended up finishing in eighth place.
This season, Houston’s batting order has benefited from Altuve’s consistent at-bats. The 32-year-old man is cutting himself. Through 101 games, he has a batting line of 280/.369/.507 with 20 home runs and 42 RBI. With 106 hits, he is currently in first place for the Astros and has been selected for the All-Star game for the eighth time in his career.

The group stage of the 2023 World Baseball Classic is scheduled to begin on March 8, and teams from Puerto Rico, Israel, and the Dominican Republic are supposedly included in Venezuela’s pool.
Rome mentioned that Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia, who is also from Venezuela and may potentially play for Lopez and Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, as another possibility.
The World Boxing Championship in 2023 had been scheduled to take place in 2021, but it was postponed because of the widespread COVID-19 outbreak. The field for the tournament has been expanded to include a total of 20 teams; the 16 teams that competed in the 2017 World Baseball Classic have been granted automatic qualification, and four more teams have been added.
