Cuba defeats South Africa 9-0 behind the play of Yuri Fernandez

Both Cuba and South Africa have completed their competitions in the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup. Yuri Fernandez was instrumental in Cuba’s victory, and Jaryd White was South Africa’s pitcher, tossing a perfect game for his team.
Yuri Fernandez had a fruitful game batting against South Africa as he guided Cuba to a victory of 9-0 against South Africa on Saturday at Dou-Liou Stadium. This victory brought an end to Cuba’s participation in the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup.
To end with a record of 3-2, Cuba won all three of their matches in the Placement Round, beating Germany, Venezuela, and South Africa respectively.
Both teams started the game on defense, and it was impressive to watch. In the top of the first inning, Cuba retired South Africa’s batter by doing a fly-out 4-6 double play. In the bottom of the first stanza, South Africa answered by performing a 1-6-3 double play, and Cuba’s pitcher, Jaryd White, finished the inning by striking out the batter.
In the second inning, Cuba’s Carlos Monier started the scoring with a single through the left side of the infield. This was followed by three more singles, which boosted Cuba’s offense and brought both Monier and Yuri Fernandez home.

After that, Cuba took a 6-0 lead thanks to a triple by Bryan Gonzalez, a double by Christian Rodriguez, and a double by Dany Oramas with two RBIs. These three hits combined to drive in four runs.
In the fifth inning, Fernandez hit another triple to right field, and thanks to Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly, he was able to score his third run of the game, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the home team.
Cuba scored two more runs before the end of the game, bringing their final score to 9-0. In the last two innings, their relievers Oscar Hernandez and Alex Guerra combined for five strikeouts, while the pitcher for South Africa, White, went the distance and pitched a complete game over the course of six innings.
